The petition of Anne Pember of Hereford, Herefordshire, 1680

To the wryght worshippfull Mr Mayor & the rest of his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace within this Citty

the Humble pet[ition] of Anne Pember

Humbly sheweth

That y[ou]r pet[itioners] husband was a freeman of this Citty & sufered greate losse by the Rebells at the taking of this Citty and afterwards was a Souldier instrumentall in his Ma[jes]ties happy most Happy Restauration & died leauing behind him 7 smale Children all which y[ou]r pet[itioner] by her hard labour brought vp [illegible] desireing any Assistance & now hath one of them fitt to be an Apprentice but for want of abillitie cannot place him without your worshipps Charitable assistance.

These pr[e]mises considered y[ou]r poore pet[itioner] humbly desireth y[ou]r worshipps will be pleased to graunt her a p[ar]te of Mr Harpers Guift for that purpose

& y[ou]r pet[itioner] shall euer pray &c
