The petition of Anne Mosely of Kinderton, Cheshire, Trinity 1658

To the R[igh]t Wor[shi]p[fu]ll the Justices of the Peace for the County Pallatine of Chester now sitting at Quarter Sessions in Namptwich.

The humble petic[i]on of Anne Mosely the distressed widow of William Mosely late of Kinarton a soldier deceased.

Sheweth,

That yo[u]r pet[itione]rs said late husband faithfully served the Common=wealth as a soldier from the beginning of the late warrs, and went over w[i]th Gen[era]ll Venables as a soldier to Jamiaca [sic.], and neuer since returned, leaving yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r and two poore children in a very meane Condic[i]on, hauing no subsistence to releeue them but w[i]th yo[u]r pet[itione]rs hard labour, till such time as it pleased Capt[ain] Whitworth to Com[m]iserate her Condic[i]on, and by his importunity to the Com[m]ittee appointed for Jamiaca procured her some small allowance, but w[i]thin a short time it was debarred her and hath beene kept from her aboue 15 or 16 moneths past, soe that yo[u]r pet[itione]r & orphanes are in a very languishing condic[i]on, and ready to perish for want vnlesses some other timely provision be made for their reliefe, as by the Certificate annexed fully appeares.

That yo[u]r pet[itione]r of late is Credibly informed that the said Com[m]ittee haue perfect intelligence of the death of yo[u]r pet[itione]rs husband, and that if she had but meanes to beare her charges to the said Com[m]ittee, & in the interim to mainteyne her said orphanes, she doubteth not, but they will take her Condic[i]on into their charitable Considerac[i]ons, & releeue her as others in the same Case.

The pr[e]misses Considered yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r humbly imploreth yo[u]r wor[shi]ps clemency to be extended towards her, and to order her such reliefe as will carry her and her orphanes on her said intended iourney [several illegible words] as to yo[u]r wor[shi]ps charitable wisedomes shall seeme meet.
