The petition of Anne Bettesworth of Lavant, Sussex, January 1652

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the Peace sitting in Sessions at Aroundle in Sussex
The humble Petic[i]on of Anne Bettesworth of Lavant widdow:
<Humbly sheweth>
That vpon her petic[i]on deliuered to the Justices of the peace theirin shewing of her husband loosing his life in the States service at Taunton then at the Generall quarter Sessions holden at Petworth the sixt day of Aprill 1646 in the said Countie there was an order graunted that your petic[i]oner should haue during her life the yearely penc[i]on of tenn pounds p[er] annu[m] quarterly to be paid their being at pr[e]sent one yeare and odd moneths behind w[hi]ch is a great hinderance to her being a sickly body and haueing not wherw[i]thall to maintaine her selfe
Her humble request to your Wor[shi]ps is that you would be pleased to take the deplorable condic[i]on of your poore petic[i]oner into your serious considerac[i]ons and to graunt that her arreares may be forthwith paid vnto her and likewise your order that her Penc[i]on for the future during life may be by the Tresurer for Charitable vses duly paid her every quarter
