The petition of Ann Wallis, Nottinghamshire, 8 January 1646

To the right hono[ura]ble Committee for ye Countie of Nottingham
The most humble Petic[i]on of Mrs Ann Wallis widd[ow].
Sheweth
Whereas yo[u]r hono[u]rs most humble Pet[itione]r as well by the losse of her sonne (next vnd[e]r God her greatest stay and comfort) who was slaine at Edghill in ye seruice of King and Parliam[en]t and since that by the decease of her daughter who was verie helpfull to yo[u]r Pet[itione]r so long as shee liued; as also by the iniurious and wrongfull detaining and w[i]thholding her rights from her the vniust hande of Those whome the course of lawe hath not yett commaunded to make her reparac[i]on as also by sundrie other passages of ye Providence of Almightie God, is now brought into a verie lowe and weake condition and is like to suffer greate want of means of liuelihood vnless some remedie through yo[u]r hono[u]rs most charitable and [Christ]ian dispose bee speedilie obtained.
Your Petitioners most humble suite to your hono[u]rs is that you would bee most gratiouslie pleased to take into yo[u]r Fauourable and [Christ]ian Considerac[i]on yo[u]r Pet[itione]rs disconsolate and lamentable Condic[i]on yt yo[u]r petic[i]oner may receiue such comfort and supply as may best suite w[i]th her pr[esen]te necessitie and yo[u]r hono[u]rs most [Christ]ian charitie vntill opportinitie bee offered yo[u]r Pet[itioner] of seeking further releif of ye Earle of Essex.
And your Petic[i]o[n]er shall pray &c

<Mr Hough pay [illegible] ten shillings to ye Pet[itione]r in p[ar]te of her late sonnes pay and this shall be yo[u]r war[an]t. Given vnd[e]r o[u]r hands 7 Jan[uary] 1645>
