The petition of Andrew Bradford of Witheridge, Devon, 14 September 1660

To the Right hono[ura]ble the Judges of Assize for the Western Sercuitt:
The humble peticion of Andrew Bradford of the p[ar]ish of Withrudge in the County aforesaid husbandman:
<Humbly showeth:>
That your poore peticioner aboute Fifteene yeers sythence was Impressed for the Kinges Ma[jes]ties seruice for the p[ar]ish of Withrudge aforesaid, by Richard Thomas then Con[sta]ble of the said p[ar]ish and serued vnder the command of Col[one]l Asson, and beinge in the Fight at Greate Torrington in this County in the kinges Ma[jes]ties seruice, where there ware many men slayne, your poore pet[itioner] was there shott in his left knee by meanes whereof hee goeth by two Cruches and is soe lame that hee is not any way able to gett his liuelyhood by husbandry nor by any other meanes, by reason whereof your poore pet[itioner] his wife and Children are like to perish for want of releefe, if your good Lordshipps Fauour doe not releeue your poore pet[itioner] herein, your poore pet[itioner] doth therefore humbly desire your good Lordshipps fauour to commiserate his sad and wofull condition & to giue him some yeerely releefe out of the Countie Stocke for the Maimed souldiers to saue him from perishinge for want of Food, and your poore pet[itioner] as in duetie bound shall euer pray for your good Lordshipps longe life health and prosperitie &c.
