The petition of Ambrose Lott of Cheadle, Cheshire, Easter 1655

To the Right worshipfull the Justices of peace & Quoru[m] for the Countye Palatine of Chester att the Jenerall Cessions houlden for the said Countye

The humble Petic[i]on of Ambrose Lott of the p[ar]ish of Cheadle in the said Countye Labourer:

Sheweth That your Petic[i]oner About Eight yeares Agone did marye one Mawgery Small of the said p[ar]ish by whom hee hath Two Children lieuinge at this p[re]sent & your Pettic[i]oner hath Liued & his wiffe in the said p[ar]ish of Cheadle euer since except [?Thatt] I your Pettic[i]oner was a souldir in the states seruice or p[ar]liaments seruice Both in England & Ireland for About fiue yeares of the afforesaid eight yeares in Constant seruice & my wiffe was Borne in the said p[ar]ish & hath liued there Constantly and now Certaine of the p[ar]ishoners doe opose your said Pettic[i]oner & will not suffer mee your Pettic[i]oner & my wiffe & Children to liue in the said p[ar]ish quietly But Complained to some of the Justices against your worships Pettic[i]oner & likewise the[y] Ameerced or fyned my landlord att a Court houlden for the ho[noura]ble Lord marques of Winchester: & your petic[i]oner must nott stay in the said p[ar]ish vnlesse hee giue securitie to free the said p[ar]ish From being any Burden or Charge to the neighbourhood. And hee that is my Landlord would haue Beene Bownd & so offered himselffe in the open Court But the[y] would nott Accept of him Butt fyned him as affores[ai]d.

And therefore your Pettic[i]oner humbly prayes that your worships would bee pleased to take your Pettic[i]oners Case into your wise Considerac[i]on & so to order that your pettic[i]oner may haue A Settlem[en]t in the saed p[ar]ish for himselffe & Familye to the end that hee may Follow his Callinge & Labour And your pettic[i]oner will euer pray for your worships health & happinesse
