The petition of Alice Wylie of Nether Wyresdale, Lancashire, Easter 1652

To the wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the peace at the Quarter Sessions holden at Preston for the hundred of Amon[derness] within the Countie of Lanc[aste]r.
The humble petic[i]on of Alice Wylie of Netherwrysdale of the p[a]rishe of Garstange in the said County.
Sheweth
That whereas yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] having formerly bene wife to Thomas Wylie Shooemaker who was a Souldier in the Parliaments Service from the beginning of the first Rysinge; and did goe into Ireland vnder the Comaund of Maior Duckenfeild in Collonell Venables Regiment. And so it fortuned vpon the fourteenth of September last in persuite of the Rebells in the province of Monster was Chosen to be vpon the forlorne hope and was slayne with a bullett and about 50tie or 60tie men more at the same tyme
May it please yo[u]r W[o]r[shi]ps therefore to take the pr[e]myses into Consierac[i]on And the humble request of yo[u]r petic]i]on[er] is that whereas yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner havinge one Childe about 3 yeares ould and beinge Impotent my selfe and nothinge to relieue vs w[i]thall desires yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps fauour to graunt Order to ye overseers of ye poore for o[u]r releife in this o[u]r extreame necessitye & miserye. And yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s as in dutye we are euer bound will pray for yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps health & happiness.
We whose names are subscribed doe testifie the miserable Condic[i]on of these petic[i]oners. And doe beeleive the Contents of this peticion to bee true.
