The petition of Alice Diamond of Horningsham, Wiltshire, Hilary 1647

To the right wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace for this Countie of Wiltes[hire].
The humble petic[i]on of Alice Diamond a poore Widowe dwelling at Hornisham in the County aforesaid.
<Humbly sheweth> vnto yo[u]r good Wor[shi]pps That yo[u]r poore Pet[itione]rs husband was slaine in Warder Castle vnder the Com[m]and of Colonell Ludlowe & hath left to yo[u]r poore Pet[itione]r Three smale children one of them sucking & nothing to keepe them Since w[hi]ch time yo[u]r Pet[itione]r hath lived in a miserable condic[i]on & could get noe allowance for her reliefe shee being pr[e]sently after the death of her said husband plundered by the adverse partie of that little shee had
That yo[u]r poore Pet[itione]r & all her children have bin strucke w[i]th a leaprousie since Michaelmasse last & are now like to perish for want of food & to be turn’d out of doore naked for want of houseroome
May it therefore please yo[u]r good Wor[shi]pps to com[m]iserate the distressed estate of yo[u]r poore Pet[itione]r & to give order to the Overseers of the poore for speedie reliefe to yo[u]r poore Pet[itione]r & her poore children who otherwise must of necessity starve And yo[u]r poore Pet[itione]r shall daylie pray &c
