The petition of Alice Chamney of Lancaster, Lancashire, Midsummer 1655

To the right worshippfull the Justices of peace For the countie Pallatin of Lancaster the humble petic[i]on of Alice Chamney late wife of Christopher Chamney of Lancaster
Sheweth that her said late husband lost all hes goods by Fiere the 18th day of March An[n]o Dom[ini] 1642 the house being then Fiered by the enemie which your petic[i]oner and her said husband did then live in and likewise in or about the month of May An[n]o Dom[ini] 1643 your petic[i]oners said husband lost his life in the common wealths service whereby your petic[i]oner became destitute of her livelihood or wherewith to subsist save only by the Charetie of this Common wealth, shee being admitted to receve som releife amongest other poore widdowes in the like condic[i]on which charetie hath nowe beene a longue time vnpaid to your petic[i]oner.
The premises considered your petic[i]oner humblie prayes that your worshippes would be pleased to commiserate your petic[i]oners sadd condic[i]on and that you would be pleased to allowe her such weekly mentainance as your worshipps in tender commiserac[i]on shall thinke fitt & you[r] petic[i]oner shall ever pray &c
