The petition of Alice Carroway of Pewsey, Wiltshire, Trinity 1651

To the w[orshipfu]ll the Justices of the peace for this Countie of Wilts[hire] sittinge at the Diuices at the Generall Sessions
The humble pe[ti]c[i]on of Alice Carroway of Peusy widdowe
Sheweth
That yo[u]r pe[ti]c[i]oners husband beinge in the Parliam[en]ts seruis, was taken in Woodhouse by S[i]r Francis Dodington, and by him barberously Executed on a Tree, And yt your pe[ti]c[i]oner was in Considerac[i]on of hir sad Condic[i]on, in the lose of hir husband & his liuelyhood thereby allowed by the Comm[issione]rs of sequestrac[i]ons for this County the su[m] of Fiue pownds p[er] annu[m] out of the estate, of the s[ai]d S[i]r Francis Dodingeton: by an Order to Cromes of Fisherton directed for paym[en]t thereof, w[hi]ch he hath donne hitherto but deteyneth my order, in p[re]tence of his discharge, and denies me paym[en]t for the yeare now endinge at Midsomer next, with out an order From ye bench
May it therefore please your Worships to grand [sic.] to yo[u]r pe[ti]c[i]on[e]r an order to the said Cromes to pay your pe[ti]c[i]oner the arreares now behind vnpaid for this yeare, and soe henceforth to Continew his payment without troubling yo[u]r pe[ti]c[i]oner to trauell vp & downe to p[ro]cure for euery paym[en]t a new order
And yo[u]r pe[ti]c[i]oner shall euer pray &c
<40 s. for this tyme by the th[reasur]er of the North p[ar]t>
7 July 1651 noe order but to attend att dynner tyme
Vpon shewing this petition to Francis Swanton Esq[uire] who was then Judge of the Sessions, he did appoynt me to giue this petisioner 2 s. 6 d. which I did accordingly
