The petition of Alexander Bancroft of Whaley, Cheshire, Easter 1647
To the Right wor[shi]p[fu]ll his ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace at there Sessions at Knutsford houlden for the said County.
The humble petic[i]on of Alexander Bancroft of Walie in the County foresaid Carpenter
Sheweth that yo[u]r petic[i]oner beinge an inhabitant w[i]thin the Township of Wayley where hee was borne, for w[hi]ch Townshipp hee hath served as a souldier in Col[one]l Duckenfeilds Regim[en]t vnder the Comand of Seriant Maior Henry Bradshaw for aboue Three yeares together hauinge a wife and Three small Children & hauinge susteyned great Losses by Col[one]l Gorings Forces when they Came through those p[ar]ts. And now being destitute of harbor & habitac[i]on is forced vpon necessitie to seeke to yo[u]r wor[shi]pps for releife in this his necessitie humbly entreatinge yow to take in to yo[u]r Considerac[i]on his miserable estate & condic[i]on & to grant him an order for the errectinge of a Cottage in the s[ai]d Township for habitac[i]on for himselfe his wife and 3 small Children & pr[e]servac[i]on of them from starvinge and the rather because he hath Joynt Consent of most of the said inhabitants of the s[ai]d Township for the errectinge of the said Cottage and yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] as in duty bound will eu[er] pray &c
