The petition of Ales Browne of Edge, Cheshire, Epiphany 1662

To ye right Worshippfulls ye Kings Ma[jes]t[y’]s Justices of Peace for ye County of Chester
The humble peticion of Ales Browne of Edge widdowe
Sheweth unto your worships that your poore peticioner haueing her said husband Georg Browne a souldiar in ye warr under his late maiesty in ye Garrison of Holt Castile, for A long time under ye Command of S[i]r Richard Lloyd, who was then Gouernor of ye said Castle, at Seuerall Sallies out of ye said Castle, ye enimie approaching neere itt, (being commanded so to do by ye said gouernor) at last was shot to death, by reason wherof, allthough your poore peticionor formerly liued well and plentifully euer since hath liued in great discontent sorrow and misery, and haueing many Children is brought into great want and pouerty
The premisses considered It is therefore ye Humble Peticion and ernest request of your poore peticionor, that your Worships will be pleased, with a Charitable and fauourable eye to looke upon her sad and lamentable condition and to giue her such a low ance yareley out of ye treasury towards ye mainteinance of herselfe and poore distressed Children, as to your Worships shall seeme most meete and your petitionor will euer pray &c
