The petition of Ales Browne, Jane Bothoe and Margerie Pulford, all of Holt, Denbighshire, 15 July 1673

To the worship[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace sitting in Quart[e]r sessions this 15th day of July
The humble petic[i]on of Ales Browne widd[ow], Jane Bothoe widd[ow] & Margerie Pulford widd[ow]
Sheweth That yo[u]r poore petic[i]oners (three sisters) had each of vs o[u]r husband killed in his late ma[jes]ties service in Holt Castle & therevpon, both wee & o[u]r children haueing noe estates, were left destitute of any maintenance or releife till such time as wee petic[i]oned yo[u]r worshipps for such releife as was allowed for widdowes in such cases wherevpon yo[u]r worshipps were pleased to ord[e]r vs fiue shillings a peece eu[e]ry quart[e]r as a penc[i]on, w[hi]ch wee accordingly receiued, till the last quart[e]r at w[hi]ch time wee were denyed it & therefore humbly appeale to yo[u]r worships
And craue that o[u]r widdowhoods in this Case may be taken into such considerac[i]on by yo[u]r worshipps that o[u]r penc[i]ons may bee allowed vs as form[er]ly towards o[u]r mainetanance [illegible] hopeing that the Act for such provision will allow of itt & yo[u]r petic[i]oners will pray &c.

It is a great charitie to Continue the penc[i]on to the poore women being soe small, theire husbands having been kil’d in the kings seruice.

The Act impowers or requires the widdow of Husbands slaine in the seruice of his late Ma[jes]ty to be relieued. therefore I desire for the Poore Petitioners.
