The petition of Adam Crosse of Goosnargh, Lancashire, Michaelmas 1679

To the wor[shi]p[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of peace
The Humble petic[i]on of Adam Crosse of Goosnargh sheweth that yo[u]r said petic[i]oner being Aged about fower score yeares and being sore maimed in the Late Kings Ma[jes]ties warrs is now soe blynd that he can nether see with the Light of the sunne nor fyer soe disabled of body that he cannot goe nor doe any thing for the getting of his Liveing: had had heretofore the allowanc out of the Towne by the overseers of the poore and some allowance by the treasurer of the maimed souldiers but now it being not allowed him And the overseer failing to give such mantainance as the Cheife gent[lemen] & Inhabitance of the Towne thinkes fitt is now enforct to crave yo[u]r wor[shi]ps Order for his releife or els he yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner is likely to starve
The premisses considered yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner doth most humbly Crave yo[u]r good worships Order for his mantainance as you in yo[u]r good discretions shall thinke fitt and he yo[u]r petic[i]oner as in all duty bound shall ever pray &c
