To the Kings most Excell[en]t Ma[jes]tie.
The humble Petic[i]on of yo[u]r Ma[jes]ties loyall Subiect & Servant Charles Earle of Carnarvan.
Humbly sheweth.
That whereas yo[u]r Pet[itione]rs Ancesto[r]s have for many Ages past held the Mannor of Ilmore in the County of Buck[ingham]s[hire] of your Ma[jes]t[y’]s Royall progenitors by ye service of being Marshall, Ma[ste]r, Surveyor, and Keeper of the Hawkes to your Ma[jes]ties said progenitors And whereas yo[u]r Ma[jes]ties predecessor Queen Mary did by Letters Pattents under ye great Seale confirme and ratifie the said Mannor and Office to S[i]r William Dormer and his heires, To w[hi]ch S[i]r William your pet[itione]r is heire. Yet since the said Confirmac[i]on certaine Grants have beene obteyned by diverse persons from some of your Ma[jes]ties predecessors, By pr[e]tence whereof, and under the name of Ma[ste]r Falconer the said p[er]sons have intrencht upon the said Office of Marshall, Ma[ste]r, Surveyor and Keeper, and have disturbed your pet[itione]rs Ancestors in the execuc[i]on thereof.
Your Pet[itione]r doth humbly intreate yo[u]r most Excellent Ma[jes]tie, That hee may be admitted to the Exercise of the said Office of Marshall, Ma[ste]r, Surveyor, and Keeper of your Ma[jes]ties Hawkes, and that hee may enioy the same in as ample manner as your pet[itione]rs Ancestors ought to have done, and as your pet[itione]rs Father in his life time even to his death did inioy the same under your Ma[jes]ties Royall Father of ever blessed memory.
And yo[u]r Petic[i]oner shall pray &c.
At ye Court at Whitehall this 12th of June 1660.
His Ma[jes]ty being not well informed how the state of the busines concerning the Stewardship and Leftenancy of the Mannor of Woodstock, & ye Keepership of the Parke there stands at pr[e]sent, the Earle of Lindsey alleaging that he hath a Grant thereof from the late King, for a certaine terme, is graciously pleased to referre the consideration of this Petition to Mr Attorney Generall who is to examine in whom the Right of the Premisses is, and for what terme to come; where upon his Ma[jes]ty will declare his further pleasure.
