The certificate for Thomas Padgett, John Padgitt and John Wildy, City and County of Coventry, 9 February 1643

To the Right Hono[ura]ble the Lord & Com[m]ons the Committee appointed for the Safety of ye Kingdome.

The humble petic[i]on of Thomas Padgett, John Padgitt his sonn and of John Wildy – Waggoners.

Sheweth.

That yo[u]r pet[itione]rs being listed First by the Right hono[ura]ble ye Lord Brooke & afterwards by his Excellency and employed in ye service of the King and Parliam[en]t in ye late Battle att Keinton, they received diu[er]s wounds and sustained great losses, To witt;

  1. yo[u]r pet[itione]r Thomas Padgitt { received tenne wounds. Lost his sonne in that Battle, 4 horses worth 24 li. furniture 3 li. 27 li.
  2. yo[u]r pet[itione]r John Padgett { received 2 wounds. Lost 3 horses worth 15 li. furniture 3 li. Waggon 6 li. 24
  3. yo[u]r pet[itione]r John Wildy { received manie sore wounds, hath beene ever since vnder ye Chirurgeons hands and still remaineth in small hope of recovery, lost 3 horses worth 14 li. harness 2 li. 10 s. Waggon 8 li. 24.10

That yo[u]r pet[itione]rs dwelling neere to ye Citty of Coventry, are enforced att theire great charge to send vpp a Messinger to attend you, and witnesses to testifie and prove the subsistance hereof.

Yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]rs therefore humbly pray, That taking the premisses into yo[u]r serious considerac[i]on, you would be pleased to afford them such Releife and repairac[i]on for such theire losses, as in yo[u]r wisdomes you shall thinke fitt; And yt w[i]th such convenient speed as it may bee donne for prevenc[i]on of theire further misery and ruine.

And yo[u]r pet[itione]rs shall pray &cs.

9 Feb[ruary] 1642:

Wee desire his Ex[cellen]cy to take theis petic[i]oners into Considerac[i]on & to doe therein according to iustice & the necessity of the petic[i]oners in such a way as shall seem most fitt in his wisdom.
