Charlotte studied for her PhD at Royal Holloway, University of London, under the supervision of Professor Justin Champion. Her thesis focussed on the administration of sequestration during the English Civil Wars, a policy which allowed Parliament to 'legally' confiscate the real and personal estates of royalists. Part of this research is forming the basis of her first book, a biography of the regicide John Bradshawe, which will be published in 2021.

She is contributing research on the early modern history of Towcester for the next volume of Northamptonshire Victoria County History. She is also working on a history of the Worshipful Company of Joiners and Ceilers of London, which will be published as part of the 450th anniversary of the grant of their charter in 2021.

She is a council member of the Cromwell Association and a convenor of the British History in the 17th Century seminar at the Institute of Historical Research.
