Notes

Noted that Sudbury was 'pressed for a soldier from Stamford Baron for his Majesty’s service in the northern parts; where he received not only thirteen very dangerous wounds in his head and body, but also the fingers of one of his hands were cut off; whereby his is totally disabled to gain a livelihood by his labour, for himself and family'. Sudbury used to have a pension of £4 per annum which was reduced to £2 10 s. at the Epiphany sessions 1643 - 'which is but small in that helpless condition he is now in'. Sudbury 'therefore prayed the court to commiserate his sad and lamentable condition, and to augment his said pension as the court should think fit'. Ordered that consideration of his petition be referred to the next three Justices of the Peace to decide whether any addition should be made to his existing pension.
