‘Upon the peticon and certificate on the behalf of William Smyth late of this city shewing that upon the 25th of Aprill 1660 he was a souldier in Captain Lesters company in the regiment of the right honorable Henry Lord Herbert under the command of his excellency the Lord Generall of his Majesties forces. And was then in actuall service. And also was instrumentall to the happy restauration of his Ma[jes]tie to his iust & lawfull right of Gouerment. And that he hath taken the oaths of supremacy & allegiance to his Majestie. And he being about the age of threescore yeares and being maimed & having lost one of his eyes’. It was ordered that he receive a yearly pension of four nobles (1 noble = 6 s. 8 d.).
