‘Upon a peticon preferred to this Court by William Knights of Barney sheweing that he was pressed from the said towne into the states service where he continued six years and received many wounds which hath disabled him from doing any further service. And now returning out of the said service & comeinge home to the said towne, The towne not willing to receive him hee Complayned to this Court & craved he might have a habitacon in the said towne whereupon the court ordered that the said towne of Barnham doe provide a house for the said William Knight and allow him a reasonable subsistence if by reason of sicknes or his wounds he shall not be able to worke to obteyne and get his liveinge.’
