Notes

Blackborn had faithfully served his Majesty in the foot company of Captain Richard Clifton, in the regiment of Colonel Hewes under the command of General Monck. [This was a New Model regiment, originally Lloyd’s. It passed through a number of other colonels including Overton, until it was given to Colonel Thomas Hughes. The regiment was under Monck’s command in Scotland, remaining there until it was disbanded in October 1660.]
