Upon the petition of William Bilcliffe of Houghton setting forth that he and his wife were 80 years old and fallen into great poverty, having been a soldier in his late Majesty’s service, it was ordered that the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of Houghton pay him 18 d. weekly towards his and his wife’s maintenance.
