‘Whereas heretofore uppon the Complaynt of Elizabeth Davy That Thomas Kelway who dwelled w[i]thout the Southgate in Exeter was slayne in his ma[jes]t[ie]s service before Lyme and Left a wife and three small Children att his house in the County of the Citty of Exeter in verie poore Case w[i]thout any meanes of Livelyhood, The Court Compassionating the necessities of the saide poore Children did heretofore give unto them for theire p[re]sent reliefe out of the Countyes stock Fifty shillings and now uppon a second Complaynte hath given Tenn shillings more to be payd out of the same stock and for theire future releefe doth com[m]end the Care of them unto the Maior & Justices of the Citty of Exeter who in respect of theire birth and habitac[i]on w[i]thin that County they Conceave ought to p[ro]vide for theire releefe.'
