Item 104 in the rolls, Taunton 1656: 'uppon reading of the Peticion of Thomas Rice shewing that about June 1656 hee lived a covenant servant with one Francis Chesterne of Bishops Lyddard & was in his fitt [?] service prest for the service of Ireland where he served till the Third of September 1655 & of late retourning is denyed a place of residence there … This Court doth refer the matter … to the twoe next Justices of the Peace to Bishops Lyddard … who are desired to call all the parties before them & to make such order therein as shalbe agreeable to Lawe.’
