Notes

fol. 30: Thomas Nicholas of the parish of St Martin in the Fields, a poor maimed soldier in receipt of a pension, had lost his eyesight by reason of his old age (being 69) and had a wife and children to maintain. He had therefore fallen in greater poverty and petitioned the court for an increase in his pension. He was awarded a gratuity of 40 s. out of the surplusage in the hands of the Treasurer for Maimed Soldiers for the hundreds of Osulstone, Edmonton and Gore, and the JPs at the next Quarter Sessions were to consider if he should have an augmentation in his pension.
