Reported that Thomas and his brother John had come to be dependent on the parish - their father John Hawley was 'now imploied in the warrs of Ireland in the service of the State and soe hath beene for a longe tyme'. It was also confirmed that their grandfather, James Hawley of Stockton, Warwickshire (father of John Hawley Senior), 'is a man of good abilitie and so by the law is chargeable with the keeping and maineteyninge of the said Children and soe the said parishe is not to be charged with them'. Ordered that Thomas and John be taken from Norton Lindsey and settled with their grandfather in Stockton, and be kept and maintained by him until the next general sessions and beyond, unless James Hawley could 'shew to this Court good cause to the contrary'.
