'Upon the certificate of Tymothy Edge, gentleman, William Rhode, gentleman, John Smyth, gentleman, John Bulkeley, gentleman, Thomas Bulkeley, gentleman, John Leake, Thomas Godwine, John Heath, and William Hella, all of the parish of Horton under their several hands; that Thomas Foster was pressed out as a soldier to serve for the said township of Horton in the service into Ireland. In which service he, the said Thomas, was maimed, and also lost one of his legs, so that he is not able to work, or maintain himself, his wife and children, and is in great poverty for want of maintenance. It is therefore ordered by the court upon reading of the certificate of the aforenamed person that the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the parish of Horton do forthwith pay and allow unto the said Thomas Foster of Staffs the sum of twelve pence weekly, for an towards the maintenance of him, the said Thomas Foster, until further order. Pro juror.' [Additional note: ‘Hella’ is probably an alternative spelling of the local family name ‘Hullah’.]
