ff.368 & 370: Although Captain Joshua Hayward's account is stated as being £173 8 s. 8 d. in arrears, and his widow, Sarah declares that he was in service as a lieutenant from 18 January to 15 March 1643 in Lord Brooke's regiment, and as captain in Arthur Hesilrige's regiment from 29 August 1643 to 24 April 1644, the date of his death and never had any free quarter, horses or arms from the State, nor any other goods or money from the country, the only receipt acknowledged so far is for £4 on 16 June 1645.
