Bill from Mr Oliver Geynes, surgeon, for the cure of Samuell Smith, a soldier under Captain Tuckington. £1 for travel from Wendlingborough and two days’ stay in Northampton. £1 for cutting of Smith’s leg. £6 for continuous dressing of Smith’s wound for nine weeks, and ‘for all furniture belonging to’. 5 s. for Smith’s lodging and bedding, and 5 s. for food and ‘for a woman’s attendance’. Extra bill of £1 10 s. for seven weeks’ cure of an unnamed soldier of Captain Tuckington’s ‘that was shot through his shoulder and neck’. Payment of bill approved by Richard Samwell and Edward Harby on 11 August 1643, and referred to ‘our agents for sequestrations’. Payment of £6 acknowledged on 12 August by the signature of Mr Oliver Geynes. Further endorsement by Mr Hopkins attests to further payment.
