‘Upon a c[er]tificate under the hands of many sev[er]all p[er]sons of the towne of Thurgarton in Norff[olk] presented to this Court on the behalf of one Richard Spurrell a blynde man who was a Soldier under the com[m]and of Captaine George Burrell in the Regiment of S[i]r Myles Hobart at his first goeinge out for the service of the Parliament which Spurrell afterwards became blynde by reason of Colds & distempers he gott in that service. This Court thought fit to allowe him the said Richard Spurrell a pension of three pounds p[er] Ann[um] to be payd unto him by the Treasurers of the maimed Soldiers of this County and the first quarter to be payd him by Mr Rant now one of the Treasorers of the maimed Soldiers, And further order the sayd Spurrell tenn shillings towards his charges to London to be payd by the sayd Mr Rant where he hope to get some ease & recovery of his blindnes[s].’
