Notes

The order was made in response to a community petition from the inhabitants of Hagworthingham to obtain a county pension for Richard Key. They described Key as a poor man, who had served his late Majesty in divers parts of this kingdom in the late unhappy wars, and having grown old and decrepit was not able to maintain himself. The Justices, noting that there was insufficient money in the county’s stock to pay the pensions of existing veterans, ordered the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of Hagworthingham to pay Key 6 d. per week until further notice.
