Item 113 in the rolls, Taunton 1656: ‘Uppon Consideration had of the great woundes received by Nicholas Ward a maymed souldier in the service of the Parliament, who had a pencion of xl s. per annum, This Court doth thinke fitt that the pencion of the said Nicholas Ward of forty shillinges be from henceforth advanced to Three poundes by the yeere, which the Treasurer is to pay him accordingly.'
