Notes

Lingard had faithfully served his Majesty as a private soldier, in the troop of Captain Theophilus Farmer in the regiment of Major-General Morgan under the command of the late Duke of Albemarle (and was thereby ‘instrumental in the happy restoration of his Majesty’). Disabled by his service, and long sickness, he was unable to maintain himself and family. [Thomas Morgan’s dragoon regiment participated in Monck’s march in 1660. Theophilus Farmer commanded the sixth troop in this regiment.]
