"Whereas Mathew Ferris of Newton Abbott haveing beene a souldier wounded in the service of the common wealth had forty shillings pencion yearly granted him towards his reliefe & for that it appears to this court ye wounds of the said Ferris doe breake forth againe being not well cared for soe as he is much impoverished & growne very weake in his bodie, It is therefore ordered that the Treasurer … doe forthwith pay … 20 s. besides 10 s. formerly granted him towards his better releife."
