Elmes' late husband William had been wounded during his service and been allowed a pension, which he had received this until his death. Elmes had been left with four small children in a poor condition, 'altogether unable to provide for themselves.' She petitioned for assistance with placing out one of her children now old enough to learn a trade. Ordered that 40 s. be given to her towards placing the child as an apprentice.
