Notes

Fol. 16v: Mary Cooke of the parish of St Alphage, widow, complained to the court that the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the parish had removed her from the house in which she had been living to one Goodwife Shaw’s house, which was cramped and in danger of catching alight. She was also a very poor and sickly woman, unable to get a subsistence and could not live on the poor relief currently allowed her, being but 16 d. a week. Her petition was ordered to the Mayor to make such order therein as he saw fit.
