"Whereas by order of the Committee appointed by the Councell of State for managing the affaires of Ely House dated 24 December 1653 it appeareth yt Margaret Browne of Plymouth was allowed 18d per weeke for her pencion for fower monethes to be paid her & soe to be discharged from receiving any farther allowance in the hospitall abovesaid & it is thereby desired at the expiracion of the said order that competent allowance be given her as to others in her condicion, she having a certificate under the hand of Captain Nicholas Andrewes that Humfry Browne her husband was a soldier in Collonell Prides Regiment & under ye command of the said Captain Andrews who was shott at Edenborrough in the States service, It is therefore ordered that ye Treasurer for the hospitall for this county shall forthwith pay unto the said Margarett Browne the summe of 40 s. towards her present maintenance."
