Notes

The court being this day informed by the humble petition of Lettice Welden, late wife of Robert Welden, deceased, a gunner in the garrison of Stafford, who was accidentally slain by discharging a piece of ordinance shortly after the overthrow of the Scottish army at Worcester. That her said husband after the death of his former wife did deliver diverse goods and 20 s. of money unto Thomas Heeley of Ranton, her brother, for the use of his younger child. And that the said Heeley promised unto the said Robert Welden upon his death to take and provide for the said child at his own expense and charges. Whereupon she delivered to the said Thomas Heeley a broadcloth cloak of her husbands, notwithstanding which he refuses to take or provide for the said child, according to his faithful promise. It is therefore ordered by the court that in lieu of the said goods, money, cloak and promise aforesaid the said Thomas Heeley shall pay to the petitioner the sum of eight pounds the one moiety on the 25th day of March next, and the other moiety on the tenth day of May ensuing, and keep the said goods and money to himself, and be discharged of his said promises.
