Notes

Key was impressed around 40 years previously 'for the King's service in Scotland' and afterwards served in the Civil Wars. He had a pension of 40 s. per annum granted to him for life. However, he was 'seduced by his wife to turn Quaker' and his pension was suspended. But being now convinced of his error, he had 'repaired constantly to church for five or six years last past'. Key requested his pension be reinstated, and any arrears the court thought fit be paid. The case was referred to Sir Matthew Dudley, baronet.
