Notes

At last Epiphany sessions, Key petitioned that he had been pressed about 40 years ago into the King's service in Scotland, and had a pension of 40 s. per annum granted him for life, but 'being seduced by his wife to turn Quaker, his pension was suspended'. Now 'convinced of his error he has constantly attended church for five or six years past.' His case had been referred to Sir Matthew Dudley, who ordered by a report dated 19th March 1683 that the pension should be reinstated and 40 s. of arrears be paid.
