Notes

fol. 52: Katherine Wright petitioned the court that her husband, Robert Wright, went out of the county as a soldier under the Earl of Northampton in the Civil Wars and never deserted the King’s service. Upon the Restoration of Charles II, her husband trailed a pike under the command of Colonel Russell in one of his Majesty’s regiments of guards until he died. Robert had been a great sufferer for his loyalty during the wars and had left Katherine in great want. She therefore desired to receive a gratuity out of the surplusage of the money raised for the maimed soldiers. Her case was referred to a committee of JPs and if they found her a fitting person for relief, she was to receive a gratuity of £4.
