Unfoliated: 'Fforasmuch as Informacon is given to this Court that [blank] Cowp[er] of Cuerden husb: is gone (a soldier) into Scotland in the service of the Comonwealth of England & left behind him [blank] his wife & three smale children, to witt Katherine James & Thomas Cowper; & noe meanes for their Relief & Mainteynces, & that the said [blank] his wife is since dead by reason whereof the said Children are in greate danger to bee starved & cast away unlesse some speedy Course bee taken for their Reliefe. It is therefore ordered by this Court that the Churchwardens & overseers of the poore wthin the parish of Leyland shall forthwth upon notice hereof make pvicon for the Mainteynce and sustenacon of the sd Katherine James & Thomas Cowp[er] Children of the sd [blank] Cowp[er] in some good & Competent Manner soe as they shall not beg nor starve, or otherwise upon Complt made to any Justice of peace wthin this County a warrt shalbee awarded agt them to Take them bound to Answer theire Contempts at the next sessions here to bee holden aand then to bee further prceeded agt according to lawe.'
