Notes

Fols 24-5: Katherine Codrington, widow, petitioned that her husband, Colonel Nicholas Codrington did faithfully serve Charles I as lieutenant to Sir Edward Seamer ‘and was a great sufferer by imprisonment & otherwise and that he dyed truly indigent’. This left her and her child ‘in a very poore condic[i]on freindles and comfortlesse where shee is driven to extreeme misery’. Her petition was referred to the JPs Edward Grey Esq., Sir John Bennett, Sir William Pultney, Thomas Rayles Esq and Laurence Squibb Esq (or any two of them) to consider what relief she should be awarded and to certify their recommendation at the next General Sessions to be held next Easter.
