Fol. 39: Jonathan Falkingham petitioned the court that he had faithfully served his late Majesty at Belvoir Castle and afterwards at Oxford. Falkingham had originally been awarded a pension of 40 s. per annum but after his situation had deteriorated, this was increased to £5 per annum and he according received 25 s., being his first quarter of the new pension, from Sir George Vyner, the previous Treasurer. However, although the a note of the increase in pension from one of the JPs in his own hand was given to the Clerk of the Peace’s servant, the Clerk refused to give the copy of the order to the petitioner so that he could receive his new pension from the Treasurer. A previous Treasurer, Thomas Rowe, affirmed that Falkingham was previously allowed the pension of £5 and so this was confirmed.
