Woodward served during the wars in regiment of James, Earl of Northampton, receiving 'diverse wounds' in that service and since the wars had continued to work as an army officer in the troop of Sir Francis Compton. He had been forced to leave this troop about a year previously as his wounds had disabled him, and he 'now is reduced to a low condition'. he had a certificate from the Earl of Northampton included in his petition.
