‘Forasmuch as John Wilson of Longwick in the parish of Prince Risborough in this county hath this p[re]sent Sessions by his petic[i]on shewed to this Court That he served as a private souldier at the time of the Restorac[i]on in the service of his late Ma[jes]tie King Charles the second. And afterwards served his late Ma[jes]tie in the Character of an Ensign & of a Lieut[enant] in Tang[i]er under the Com[m]and of the righ[t] hono[ura]ble William, late Earl of Insiquin [William O’Brien, second earl of Inchiquin (1640-1692) was governor of Tangier from 1674] as by his seuerall commission under the hand & seal of the said Earl now produced in Court appeared. And by his said petic[i]on further showed that by such his services he is disabled and reduced to great poverty having four small Children and onely ij s. weekly allowed him from the said parish wherewith he is not able to subsist. And hath prayed this Court to order him a further allowance from the said parish and to be admitted a penc[i]oner. And the said Wilson having made oath of the truth of the premises and that his sup[er]iour officers are all dead…’ The court ordered him a pension of 40 s. per annum and 2 s. 6 d. for a copy of this order.
