"Whereas it appeareth … by certificate under the hand of Captain Thomas Kerslake that John Staplyn of Tiverton was a souldier in the service of the State who was twice shott in the said service & hath beene a long time under the Chirurgions hand by means whereof he hath spent his whole estate soe that he is now in a sad condicion, It is therefore ordered that the Treasurer … doe forthwith pay unto the said John Staplyn 30 s. for his present maintenance."
