"Whereas it appeareth … that John Sheppard of Plimpton Mary was a souldier in the Garrison of Plymouth under the command of Mayor Christopher Martyn & in a fight with the enemy received a bullet in his arme where it still remaynes & his wound still runs soe that he is thereby disabled to follow his calling & haveing a wife & small children is noe way able to relieve & maintaine them, It is therefore ordered that the Treasurer … doe from henceforth pay … three pounds yearely by quarterly payments for his salary untill farther order whereof he is to have 15 s. in hand."
