John Marchant the younger, last Christmas was a servant at Orcheston St George and was here impressed in a fight near p.44: Winchester and ‘by the treading of horses upon him’ he is unable to work. Father a poor man. Court orders Francis Bennett shall pay 40 s. out of the county stock to John Marchant the younger. HMC, Various Collections, i. 110 mentions that Marchant was ‘imprest for a soldier in the King’s service under Capt Penruddocke and Col. Cooke’ – might be from the original petition which no longer survives.
