Notes

Whereas the court is this day informed by the humble petition of John Howell, late of Hill Ridware, husb[a]nd[man] that he was pressed there in June 1651 for a soldier into Ireland (which is found to be true by the indentures then made between the commissioners for the militia for the said county, and the conductors of the pressed men to the port of Chester), and did serve as a foot soldier in Colonel Huson’s [Hewson’s] regiment under the command of Captain Lewes; where he was maimed and disabled to get his living, and yet doth want such authentic certificate thereof, as the late act of Parliament for the relief of maimed soldiers doth require. It is ordered by the court that until such certificate as aforesaid can be obtained, that the said John Howell shall from Translation Sessions last, being seventeenth day of July, be paid ten shillings quarterly by the treasurers for the maimed soldiers. And that the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of Maveson Ridware [Mavesyn Ridware] shall pay to him 8 d. weekly towards his further relief till the obtaining of such certificate as aforesaid.
